Todays Repair

A very poorly 29″ rear wheel on a single speed mountain bike , with crunchy bearings and a wonky freehub.

The Fix for Hope Pro II trials hub

Hub Service and repair play in freehub assembly. Hub tear down revealed broken free hub pawl spring , pawls badly corroded probably caused by worn drive side main seal. Springs and pawls required replacement .Badly corroded inboard needle bearing required replacement to remove freehub play. Found excessive play in outboard freehub bearing and both drive and non drive hub bearings, all will need replacing. Drive side main seal requires replacement to stop ingress of dirt and water.

Stripped hub and freehub , cleaned remorselessly pressed in new main and needle bearing, then set about the main hub assembly. New bearings along with a shiney clean spindle pressed into place. Rebuilt the spring and pawls in the freehub , how there are four fully functioning ones rather than 3 and a half!
